In Memoriam: William C. Gordy (1944-2023)
The President and Commissioners of the Town of Pittsville with great sadness announce the passing of William C. Gordy, the Town’s Director of Public Works & Superintendent of the Waste Water Treatment Plant (WWTP). Mr. Gordy served the Town for nearly thirty years and along with his regular duties assisted the Town Manager with planning/zoning issues and code compliance/enforcement matters. Mr. Gordy was a dedicated employee for the Town and will be greatly missed by his Pittsville “family”.

NEW FOR THIS YEAR: Fireworks! Stick around after National Night Out and enjoy a fantastic fireworks show presented by the Town of Pittsville! Fireworks will be set off from the field directly adjacent to Pittsville Volunteer Fire Department beginning at dusk.
Wicomico County: Free Tire Disposal Event
Next Friday and Saturday, August 4th and 5th!
Wicomico County residents can dispose of up to 10 tires at the Newland Park Landfill. This is a FREE event that runs from 7:30am-2:30pm both days. Only non-commercial truck and car tires will be accepted and you must show a photo ID!

National Night Out 2023
Mark your calendars for next Wednesday!
The Pittsville Police Department is happy to announce that National Night Out 2023 will be held on Wednesday, August 2, 2023 at Pittsville Park on Railroad Avenue. The event will start at 5:00 PM and last until 8:00 PM. There will be hotdogs (prepared by the Pittsville Volunteer Fire Department, Inc.) and drinks for all! We’ll be giving away backpacks and notebooks for the kids as school is right around the corner! Come out and join us for this fun, free community event!

TOWN MEETING SNAPSHOT [17 Jul 23]
The following items were on the agenda for the above meeting:
- Treasurer’s Report
- General Operating Balance: $48,116.32
- Utility Operating Balance: $101,590.02
- MLGIP Fund: $2,453,825.32
- Town Manager’s Report
- TMCR request for reimbursement submitted for $15,145.20
- TMCR grant application for $55,000.00 submitted.
- Work to begin soon on new Community Parks/Playground grant application.
- “National Night Out” will be August 2 with fireworks at the conclusion of the event.
- Amended FY 23 & FY 24 budget ordinances will be ready for introduction at the August town meeting.
- ARP budget will be revised to indicate a separate line item for police building solar panels & $60,000 allocated for a new test well.
- Town Engineer’s Report
- Phase IV of WTP Upgrade still in review by MDE.
- First sludge bed at WWTP completed. (Second one to be worked on soon)
- Utility infrastructure mapping on-going.
- WWTP Pre-Engineering still under USDA review.
- FY 23 “Street Improvement Project” will begin soon.
- Working on the “storm water management” study & test well project.
- There was no legislative action to be considered at this meeting. However, the Town Commissioners requested an ordinance to amend the zoning code to include a special exception use for “auto repair, storage & towing” to be included in the Central Business District/CBD zone to be ready for introduction at the August town meeting.
- Wicomico County Executive Julie Giordano attended and gave an update on the County’s activities.

Road Closure Notice: Poplar Neck Road
SPECIAL MUNICIPAL ALERT!!!
Please be advised that the Wicomico County Department of Public Works’ ROADS DIVISION will be doing major roadway improvements on that section of Poplar Neck Road between Casher Wells Road and the Town’s Wastewater Treatment Plant on or about July 24, 2023.
This portion of Poplar Neck Road will be closed to traffic while the work is ongoing. Anyone interested or wanting more information is encouraged to call the County Roads Division at 410-548-4872.
