We’re Hiring: Seasonal Public Works Maintenance Assistant

The Town of Pittsville is seeking qualified individuals to work as a seasonal maintenance assistant for the Department of Public Works. The maintenance assistant will be under the supervision of the Deputy Director of Public Works with the following duties: ongoing maintenance and repairs of public buildings, streets, roads, vehicles, grounds to include grass/weed cutting, parks, and equipment. Individual may also be required to assist with water/sewer infrastructure on an as needed basis.

Work requires constant physical effort and at times strenuous effort. This position is seasonal (April-October). Hourly compensation depending on qualifications will be $15-$18. Interested individuals should obtain a job application at the Pittsville Town Hall, 7505 Gumboro Road, Pittsville, MD 21850, send a resume with qualifications noted to the same address as noted.

    • “Bulk trash” pick up will be Thursday, April 20.
    • April 7 is GOOD FRIDAY and Town Offices will be closed.
  • Town Engineer’s Report
    • Phase IV of WTP MDE reviewing comments requested.
    • FY23 “Street Improvement Project” being worked on for submittal to Town Commissioners.
    • WWTP sludge bed improvements scheduled for 1 May.
  • Resolution # 2023-02 “Authorizing the Town of Pittsville to Enter the Maryland Local Government Investment Pool” – ADOPTED.
  • Town Flag proposal tabled until next town meeting on April 17, 2023.
  • The following were appointed and confirmed as members of the PITTSVILLE ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT COMMISSION (PEDC): Kelly Jeter and Dale Littleton.

County Focus: Public Hearing on Fiscal Year 2024 Operating Budget

COUNTY EXECUTIVE ANNOUNCES PUBLIC HEARING ON PROPOSED OPERATING BUDGET FOR FISCAL YEAR 2024

Salisbury, MD … Wicomico County Executive Julie M. Giordano invites all citizens to participate in a Public Hearing on the Fiscal Year 2024 Operating Budget, Capital Improvement Budget, Governmental and Enterprise Funds Budgets and the appropriation of all expenditures for the period of July 1, 2023 through June 30, 2024. The meeting will be held on Monday, March 13, 2023, in the Flanders Room of the Wicomico Youth and Civic Center beginning at 6:00 PM.

The public is encouraged to present their comments and questions. County Executive Giordano and her staff will consider the suggestions of the citizens when creating the Fiscal Year 2024 Operating Budget. Final decisions will be based on prioritization of need and available funding sources.

Road Closure POSTPONED: Poplar Neck Road

The planned closure of Poplar Neck Road for roadway improvements has been POSTPONED. Additional information can be obtained by contacting the Wicomico County Department of Public Works’ Roads Division at 410-548-4872.

Wicomico County agricultural scrap tire event

Wicomico County will be hosting a free Agricultural Scrap Tire Collection Event from March 6, 2023 until March 11, 2023. Drop off will be occurring from 7:30am until 3:00pm at 6948 Brick Kiln Road.

Farmers will be allowed to drop off scrap tires free of charge during these timeframes. Tires will not be accepted from out of state commercial haulers.

Proof of Wicomico County residency will be required in the form of photo ID. The County has the ability to end the event early should they reach maximum capacity and limits.

Town donates old Police vehicle to Wor-Wic

The Town of Pittsville recently acquired a new Police patrol vehicle through a USDA grant program. This afternoon, Pittsville Commission President Sean McHugh and Pittsville Chief of Police Robert Harris donated the town’s old patrol vehicle to Wor-Wic Community College. The donated vehicle will be used by college security staff as well as the Eastern Shore Criminal Justice Academy. Through this donation, the Town of Pittsville is pleased to support the training of the law enforcement officers who protect and serve our local communities.

Road Closure Notice: Poplar Neck Road

SPECIAL MUNICIPAL ALERT!!!

Please be advised that the Wicomico County Department of Public Works’ ROADS DIVISION will be doing major roadway improvements on that section of Poplar Neck Road between Casher Wells Road and the Town’s Wastewater Treatment Plant on or about March 6, 2023.

This portion of Poplar Neck Road will be closed to traffic while the work is ongoing. Anyone interested or wanting more information is encouraged to call the County Roads Division at 410-548-4872.
